If you are looking to start a new mystery series or want to catch up with the rest of a series you’ve started, check out the mystery authors and their series in order below. Click on an author’s name to see the author’s bio page and their books in order of publication and chronological timeline, along with a link to reviews for books in the series.
Most mystery authors have written more than one series, so if you are looking for a particular series in order, rather than all the books written by the author, here you will find each mystery and thriller series listed separately under the author’s name.
This page is constantly updated with new authors included. While I can’t possibly add every crime, mystery and thriller author who has written a book to date, if you have a favorite and you don’t see it on the list, let me know in the comments section and I will add it here.
The mystery authors page is useful if you know the name of a series (e.g. Jack Reacher), but it has momentarily failed you who the author is, or you’re simply interested in learning about new authors you want to start catching up to.
In addition, you can also check out the authors/books listed in the mystery genres below:

Marcia Muller – Sharon McCone series! AND Sara Paretsky – V.I. Warshawski series
Can you add Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling writing as), they are such great stories!
Love this site
How could you omit Agatha Christie and John LeCarre?
Hello,
Iona wishaw has written a great historical fiction mystery series (9 books I think) set in Nelson BC Canada
Hello,
I hope you are well. I’m author J.T. Kelly. My website is http://www.kellyfairways.us which displays my seven mystery/thriller novels. How do you determine the books to review and/or list on your site?
Thanks,
J.T.
Love this reference! Would love to see David Rosenfelt added to your list of authors.
Hello,
Would love to see Eriq La Salle’s thriller series added to your list!
PG Lengsfelder’s BEAUTIFUL TO THE BONE (The Eunis Trilogy – BookOne). I hear the next in the series will be out early this fall.
THIS SITE IS SOOOO USEFUL! THANKS. PLEASE ADD JANE HADDAM
Erica Spindler
Great list! Absolutely agree with all entries. What about Shari Lapena and Ruth Ware?
Please consider Margaret Coel’s series on the Wind River Reservation in Central Wyoming…Arapahos…featuring Father O’Malley and Attorney Vickie Holden, herself an Arapaho.
How about Jana DeLeon and the Miss Fortune series?
Dick Francis
I have read the series from L.Penny, A.Kava, K.Slaughter, T.Gerritsen, L.Gardner, R.Bryndza, A.Marsons, M.J.Arldige.
In your list I miss Caroline Mitchell (DI Amy Winter, DS Ruby Preston), Carol Wyer (DI Robyn Carter, DI Natalie Ward) and especially Jane Casey (DC Jane Kerrigan, DS from book 7). I don’t read the Jennifer Knight series from Caroline Mitchell as it is a bit supernatural which is less my cup of tea.
Maybe you could add these three authors.
Where is ” Ruth Ware ” name and list of her great novels . I couldn’t put her books down as I read all 5 , one after the other .
You’ve missed one of my favorites:
Mary Anna Evans – Faye Longchamp series
What about Ashley Weaver.
I am familiar with and follow (like) your blog.My book “The Cotton Candy Killer” was published by Solstice Press on September 3rd so I would like reviews or about December 1. I have zero reviews at present so yours would make a big difference. I would like review posted on Amazon, goodreads, and your blog. I can provide mobi, epub or pdf electronic copies or a paperback copy in exchange for a fair review.
Only Raven knows her missing and estranged husband is in fact dead. She knows, because she killed him. Another murdered body has landed at her feet, and she must uncover the killer before the police investigation stumbles across her crime. Raven cannot allow her significant disability to interfere but must use it to her advantage before her prey turns the tables.
This is my second novel in this series. The first, Reclaiming Raven, was published by Solstice Publishing in 2018. I have cared for two disabled women who required total care for more than twenty years, so I have strong experiences and feelings about these individuals and their struggles.
disabled women who required total care for more than twenty years, so I have strong experiences and feelings about these individuals and their struggles.
Please consider reviewing this second book about Raven, you won’t forget her.
Kindest Thanks,
Mary Holt
Tim Downs would be nice to add. Thanks for this! It is helpful when looking for used books.
My 5th Kim Reynolds mystery novel BLOOD FAMILY will be published May 15, 2020 by Encircle. Please add to the list! Sara Paretsky has said of the librarian sleuth: “Kim Reynolds is a thought-provoking character.”
Hello,
I just discovered your site and think it’s wonderful! What a great idea.
Would you please consider adding my books? I’m an cozy mystery author and have 6 series and 70+ books.
Here are my series names with descriptions and number of books currently in each series.
Thank you for your kind consideration!

Kate Atkinson (Jackson Brodie)
Chris Knopf (Sam Acquillo)
Ann Cleeves (Shetland Island, Vera Stanhope, Two Rivers)
M. C. Beaton (Agatha Raisin, Hamish Macbeth)
you should add Chelsea Cain to your list of authors.
Paul Doiron’s series about Mike Bowditch, a Maine Game Warden, is excellent. You might consider adding this series.
Robert McCammon writes mostly Horror/ Fantasy books but he has written a series called The Matthew Corbett series, which is an Historical Fiction mystery series. It is as well written as his Horror/fantasy books. Please look into this author.
Thank you for your time.
Please add author Andrea Kane as she writes The Forensic Instincts Series along with a ton of other books. Her books are like Iris Johansen’s… they keep you riveted to the story and you don’t want to stop reading right up to the end.
Thank you for your time.
Anne Hillerman published her third book in the Bernie Manuelito and Jim Chee series, “Song of the Lion”. Any chance you could add her to the list of series you track? Thanks. Love this site.
You can find the Leaphorn & Chee series on the page I created for her dad, the late author Tony Hillerman. The latest books written by Anne are also added to the list.
Would love to see more ebooks by Peter Robinson and Elly Griffiths. I know you have audio books by these authors, but ebooks are my favorites.
Another good mystery author is Ben Coes and his Dewey Andeas series
Just found this site. Fabulous. Having read and re-read my favourite authors it is somewhere to find new ones. I notice you have not included any classic mystery authors.
You don’t list either the Jason Bourne or Alex Cross series by Robert Ludlum, both of which are similar to the Jack Ryan series (including the Campus and/or John Clark series) by Tom Clancy. All of which either revolve around or cover the Central Intelligence Agency as a larger part of the series.
I am also surprised that Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series is not included as well.
All of which can be considered as Mystery/Thrillers
Dan Brown added. Alex Cross series is by James Patterson and it has already been added on the site.
Robert Ludlum will be added shortly.
Thank you for this site. I come here to find new authors to try. I enjoy the Sasha McCandless series by Melissa F. Miller.
What about Tess Gerritsen’s Rizzoli & Isles series?
Tess Gerritsen has been added.
Please consider adding my books to your list. I am the author of the “almost cozy” Miriam bat Isaac Mystery Series set in first-century CE Alexandria, Egypt. My protagonist is modeled after the legendary alchemist, Maria Hebrea.
Miriam, with the help of her servant Phoebe, uses her primitive knowledge of metallurgy and medicine to solve crimes.
Each book stands alone but is best read in order to see how the characters evolve and adjust to the growing turbulence in the Eastern Roman Empire.
The books are praised for their historical accuracy and lyrical prose.
THE DEADLIEST LIE (2013)
THE DEADLIEST HATE (2015)
THE DEADLIEST SPORT (coming next)
Where is christine feehan’s dark series?
Well it’s not really a crime mystery series, it’s paranormal romance. I’ve read it years ago and loved each book, but the genre doesn’t really match with the topic of this site.
My bad on the spelling. Stieg Larsson is his name.
If I missed others talking about the Stieg Larsens “the girl who…” Books , I apologize but I didn’t see his name on your list. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo had 2 good sequels prior to the authors death. A new author has taken up the story with the blessing of Larsen’s family. Normally I wouldn’t consider reading a new authors take on a story that I really like but reviews were very positive.
I read it and I liked it. The author respected the work done before him and honestly if I didn’t know Stieg was dead I would have thought it was the same author.
The Girl in the Spiders Web is a good read but I would think it best to read them in order.
That’s what this site is about😊
I’d suggest adding Harry Bingham, author of the Fiona Griffiths series, set in Wales. Fiona is the strangest and most fascinating detective I’ve ever encountered. All the more fascinating because her strangeness is reality-based.
Oh, and Giles Blunt has a great series featuring John (?) Cardinal.
One more — the Penn Cage series by Greg Iles!!
Oh, and the Charlie Parker series by John Connolly (sp?). Mysteries with a supernatural flair.
John Connolly added.
The Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffrey Deaver is awesome!
What a great site. I’d like to suggest Donna Leon (Commissario Brunetti). Takes place in Venice. And there’s always a map.
G.M. Malliet has two mystery series, St Just and Max Tudor.
I enjoy reading Elizabeth George’s Lynley and Havers series but it is not included in your list
Elizabeth George added
I enjoy Edward Marston’s mysteries. He has several current series including The Railway Detective and The Home Front Detective – both historical.
Thank you for the lists, makes deciding what to buy next much easier.
Might I suggest Sue Grafton, Tess Gerritsen, Ovidia Yu, and Ann Perry? Also, on the less terror but more relaxing end … Leslie Meier and Diane Mott Davidson.
Yes, all these should be added.
Anne Perry and Sue Grafton added
THANK YOU. My daughter got me a Kindle. I struggle to find the titles of the next in a series online …and then I found this.
Thank you for your wonderful site. Please consider adding the series from Swedish author Lars Kepler, with Joona Linna.
Wonderful site. Please add Quintin Jardine author of the Bob Skinner series. Thank you.
Hi,
Thanks for a great resource!
Please add Mo Hayder to your list.
One of the great thriller….. Authors
Cheers,
Chris
I concur – Please add Mo Hayder and the Jack Caffery series
Mo Hayder added.
What about Charles Todd (Ian Rutledge series and Bess Crawford series)?
Charles Todd added.
Thanks for David S. Khara, great series about agent Morg! Only one problem; these books are too short!
Now how about including Steve Berry (Cotton Malone) to your list?
Steve Berry added.
Check out Gail Bowen, a Canadian writer – the Joanne Kilbourne Mysteries. Well worth reading.
Laurie R. King – Mary Russell series and
Dana Stabenow – Kate Shugak series
Wonderful authors and great female protagonists.
Alan Bradley’s Flavia de Luce series? The Amazon page for the first book, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, has a great Q&A with the author in which he says, “Flavia walked onto the page of another book I was writing, and simply hijacked the story.” Ben Aaronovitch’s PC Peter Grant supernatural mysteries are fun and funny, with fascinating infobits about London through the centuries thrown in.
This is a great site, thanks!
My sister Loretta Jackson and I are authors of two series–the Ardis Cole Mystery Series (an archaeological series set in different locations around the world) and the Jeff McQuede High Country Mystery Series (set in Wyoming) The Ardis Cole series is published by Rowe Publishing, and the High Country Mystery series was published by Amazon Encore. They are available as ebooks and paperbacks. We’d love to be included in your list.
I’ve been enjoying two character driven mystery series by David Handler & M.C.Beaton. The 2nd author’s series is about a Scottish constable with 30 novels so far. Thank you for this website which has to be a labor of love.
Robert B Parker:Spenser,Jesse Stone,Sunny Randall, and Cole and Hitch novels, also Ace Atkins who is continuing the Spenser series and has a series of his own :The Ranger, the Lost Ones and the Broken Places featuring Quinn Colson.
Totally agree!
Thank you so much for this wonderful site, some ideas, perhaps Jeffrey Deaver (Lincoln Rhyme series) as well as Jonathan Kellerman (Alex Delaware series) and his wife Faye Kellerman (Peter Decker/Rhina Lazarus-Decker series)
I would echo the suggestion of Stuart Woods (Stone Barrington is the hero) and would also recommend Jeffrey Archer, a British Author whose written about 30 novels, 4-5 Short Story collections and really captivates ones attention. I love him!
Greg Veltema
Stuart Woods added.
How about Stephen Hunter (Bob the Nailer series)? Fantastic writing. Great list btw.
Hi: just discovered your site a few days ago and enjoy the lists and helps me catch up on missing titles in my reading. Someone asked earlier about John Sandford – Davenport, Flowers and Kidd series, however you didn’t mention them or say that you had any info on them yet. Will you add them to your listings?
Thanks
John Sandford added and page updated with his entry.
Hi – I am just curious if you have ever read F. Paul Wilson – Repairman Jack Series? He is such a wonderful character – I have read the entire series and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Not sure if you would categorize them as a mystery novel – I would.
Oh yes I’ve read the Repairman Jack series and loved it! It’s actually a spin-off series from Adversary Cycle. Great series, both. I would classify them as supernatural thriller series. Will add them soon to the site.
And Tom Rob Smith
Ahhh how could I forget Julia Spencer-Fleming!!!!!! RIGHT up there with Louise Penny, on my list anyway
P.J. Parrish is pretty awesome too. And Kathleen Ernst is super cool!! And G. M. Mallet. & Philip Depoy – Shirley Damagaard –
P.J. Parrish added.
My Roger and Suzanne mystery series is now at a total of nine books, all published as e-books on Amazon Kindle. The most recent is “Unbearably Deadly”. Does a Kindle-only series qualify for inclusion on your list?
Thank you.
Peter Temple? Gary Disher?
Love the site. I recommend adding Tony Hillerman. Read so long ago I forget the lead detective character, but the series is set on U.S. Indian reservations.
Another favorite author of mine is Nevada Barr. She writes a series staring Anna Pigeon, a National Park ranger. Each novel takes place in a different national park. You learn about the park and the area as well as reading about a murder mystery and watching Anna’s character develop. Anna is a strong female character. Wonderful books. You will enjoy reading this series. By the way, do you read all of the books that you add to your site? What a marvelous task!
Yes, I read them all eventually – I’ve read most of those already listed, and some are on my TBR shelf to to read soon. love my readers input about series they’d love to see here, because that gives me new material to read!
You had the Kenzie and Genarro series and Coughlin series for Dennis Lehane. Don’t forget the standalone psych thriller/mystery Shutter Island.
Good news: Amazon and Hachette have settled their differences and the new Connelly book is available.
That’s great news about Amazon, thanks for letting me know. Would have been a shame to not have the Connelly books at Amazon anymore.
Where are Elizabeth George, Deborah Crombie, Martha Grimes, Frances Fyfield, Jacqueline Winspear, Charles Todd?
Deborah Crombie, Martha Grimes and Elizabeth George added.
I think Jacqueline Winspear is a good addition.
Please include Linda Castillo: Kate Burkholder series
Linda Castillo added.
I would also like to see Jeffery Deaver (Lincoln Rhyme series ) and James Lee Burke (Dave Robixeau)
This is fabulous place to catch up on my reading list!! I love that you have series in order. So I can fill in the few gaps I have . Misting one book in Scarpetta series!
Hugs!
Jeffery Deaver finally added. James Lee Burke was already on the list.
I would add
Victoria Houston: She is the author of the Loon Lake Mystery Series
A bit late, I know, but Victoria Houston has been added to Mystery Sequels.
Would your website be a good one for including Lynda La Plante? She has several mystery series, most famous the Anna Travis series.
Cheers
Bit late, but Linda La Plante added.
Hello,
Some authors that definitely should be added to this site are:
Graham Hurley’s Faraday and subsequent Jimmy Suttle series(UK); David Hewson’s Nick Costa series(Italy) and his new Pieter Vos series(Amsterdam); James Thompson’s Kari Vaara series (Finland). These series should be read in order for character progression and also past histories play a role in each of the novels.
They are all superb reading and highly recommended.
Unfortunately James Thompson passed away in August 2014 while working on his fifth or sixth Kari Vaara novel.
James Thompson added. Yes he passed away last August while working on his 5th novel, Helsinki Dead 🙁
Edit: Graham Hurley and David Hewson added as well.
Would it be possible to add author William Kent Krueger? Cork O’Connor series set in Midwest Wisconsin and MN.
Thanks for considering this request. He’s a great writer!
William Kent Krueger added.
How about John Sandford: Davenport, Flowers and Kidd series. Also Joel Goldman: Lou Mason, Jack Davis and Alex Stone.
I like the site. I’m always looking for new authors.

Where is your list for Nesbo? You mention his name under Mankell (Wallander)
The Jo Nesbo books are being added soon. I mentioned him on the Henning Mankel page regarding the books being out of order (as an example). Will update the list as soon as the Jo Nesbo books are added (which is probably tomorrow).
