Heather Graham Books in Order

Where to Start with Heather Graham

→ New to Graham’s paranormal thrillers? Start with Phantom Evil (Krewe of Hunters #1). It introduces the FBI unit, the core characters Jackson Crow and Angela Hawkins, and sets the tone for the whole series.
→ Want something shorter before committing to a long series? The Bone Island Trilogy (Ghost Shadow, #1) is self-contained at three books and works without any knowledge of the Krewe team.
→ Prefer a tighter, two-person dynamic over a team? Try Deadly Gift (Flynn Brothers #3) or start the Cafferty & Quinn series with The Café on the Nile. Both are more intimate than the Krewe setup.
→ If you want more historical romance than paranormal thriller? Skip to the Shannon Drake books. The Graham Clan and MacAuliffe Vikings series are in a completely different setting and have no connection to her thrillers.

How the Series Connect

Most of Heather Graham’s paranormal thriller series share the same universe. The Harrison Investigation series is set before the Krewe of Hunters and follows Adam Harrison, the ex-investigator who eventually founds the FBI unit at the heart of the Krewe books. The two series can be read separately, the Krewe novels summaries the relevant backstory, but together they form one continuous world. The Blackbird Trilogy is a direct Krewe spin-off, following agents Luke Kendrick and Carly MacDonald, and is best read after getting familiar with the Krewe stories.

The Cafferty & Quinn series, the Bone Island Trilogy, the Flynn Brothers series, and the Four Horsemen series are all independent of the Krewe world.

Her historical romance series under the Shannon Drake name are different both in tone, time period, and characters.

Krewe of Hunters Series (Books in Order)

The Krewe of Hunters series follows an elite FBI unit of paranormal investigators, agents who can communicate with the dead, who work cases that regular law enforcement can’t explain. Founded in New Orleans by agents Jackson Crow and Angela Hawkins under the oversight of ex-paranormal investigator Adam Harrison, the Krewe crew grows over time as new members join and are sent to haunted locations across the United States. Each book centers on a different couple within the unit. Each book is focused on a different couple within the unit, with settings ranging from New Orleans plantations to New England battlefields to Las Vegas stages, all chosen for their historical ghost stories and their real-world potential for crime. The FBI procedural series incorporates in its structure very light supernatural elements, such as the “talking to ghosts,” making it accessible to readers who aren’t typically drawn to paranormal fiction.

The series is best read from book 1, as it starts with the unit’s formation and shows the beginning of the Jackson/Angela relationship, both which are a main part of the ongoing arc. The individual mysteries are self-contained, but the team dynamics and recurring characters’ roles grow as the series grows as well.

Blackbird Trilogy (Books in Order)

The Blackbird Trilogy is a Krewe of Hunters spin-off series, which follows special agents Luke Kendrick and Carly MacDonald, members of the Krewe of Hunters’ international operations unit, codenamed Blackbird, who track serial killers across Europe. Each book is set in a different country with the paranormal element carried over from the Krewe world. The trilogy can be read as a standalone introduction to the Blackbird unit, although it is best read after reading some books in the Krewe universe to get familiar with the world.

  1. Whispers at Dusk, 2023
  2. Secrets in the Dark, 2023
  3. Cursed at Dawn, 2023

Blackbird Files Series (Books in Order)

The Blackbird Files continues the international Krewe spin-off series, following the Blackbird team as they pursue new cases across European cities. The series picks up directly from the Blackbird Trilogy, so reading that trilogy first is recommended for context on the characters.

The Crows Series (Books in Order)

Apocalypse Cult Series (Books in Order)

The Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest series, also called the Apocalypse Cult series, follows Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agent Amy Larson and FBI special agent Hunter Forrest as they investigate crimes that are tied to extremist groups and apocalyptic cults across the American South. The series is closer to straight crime thriller than the paranormal-heavy Krewe books. While the supernatural elements are present, the focus is much more on the human threat. Fans of the Krewe series who want something with more procedural elements often mention this series as a good complement.

  2. Shadows in the Night, 2017
  3. Out of the Darkness, 2018 (also titled Conspiracy to Murder)

Cafferty and Quinn Series (Books in Order)

The Cafferty and Quinn series follows Danni Cafferty, who inherits her father’s antiques shop on Royal Street in New Orleans, and Michael Quinn, a former cop turned private investigator. Danni’s father also left her a book of secret instructions for defeating evil entities and dealing with cursed objects and supernatural threats, which turns out to be more useful than she expected, because her shop soon gets invaded by cursed objects, haunted paintings, and dark supernatural forces. Each book works well as a standalone, though reading in order gives fuller context for Danni and Quinn’s growing and deepening relationship.

Heather Graham

Heather Graham is a New York Times bestselling author who wrote over 200 contemporary, historical romance and gothic stories, suspense books, and paranormal books.
Official website: theoriginalheathergraham.com

Heather Graham was born on March 15, 1953, in Miami, Florida, and grew up with four other siblings. She grew up in Dade County, Florida. After the high school graduation, she married Dennis Pozzessere, but she continued to study. She attended the University of South Florida at Tampa, where she graduated with a degree in theater arts. Next, she had several different jobs, ranging from dinner theater, singing backup vocals, to bar-tending.

Her first novel, When Next We Love, was published in 1982. In the early part of her career she published under both her maiden name (Heather Graham) and her married name (Heather Graham Pozzessere), later adding the pen name Shannon Drake for historical romance. The Shannon Drake name, which launched with Ondine in 1988, became a separate brand aimed at readers of Scottish and medieval historical romance, with series like the Graham Clan, the MacAuliffe Vikings, and the Angel Hawk books.

Her first romantic suspense novel was The Island, published in 1995, which soon became a bestseller. Her supernatural thriller work began with the Harrison Investigation series in the early 2000s and moved on to the Krewe of Hunters in 2011. The Krewe series, which follows an FBI unit of agents who can communicate with the dead, became her longest-running and most-read series, eventually having more than 40 main novels and generating a spin-off trilogy (the Blackbird Trilogy). The series has been consistently praised for its use of real American historical locations.

Over the course of her career, Heather Graham has published well over 200 novels in the romance, paranormal thriller, romantic suspense, and horror genres. Her books have been translated into approximately 25 languages with over 75 million copies in print. She received the Romance Writers of America Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, the International Thriller Writers ThrillerMaster Award in 2016, and the Anthony Award for Best Anthology/Collection in 2025 for the Bouchercon anthology she edited. She is an active member of both the International Thriller Writers and Mystery Writers of America, and is a certified scuba diver. She and her husband Dennis Pozzessere have five children and are based in Florida.

  2. Will Danger in Numbers have a sequel. It kind of ends with a setup i feel like.

  3. Is Adam Harrison a main character in any of her books? Like, one of the series is named after him but I can’t find a book that deals with his backstory other than brief mentions like in the first Krewe book.

  4. Hello, I am trying to collect all of the Heather Graham written books. I just started two years ago. Any advice on to get copies of her first books? I am addicted to the Krewe of hunters book series, but I read anything of hers I can get.

  7. The Trance is added but I have no idea of The Apparition. Did you see that on the site you mentioned?

  8. I try to read books in the order they are written. I look for the new ones as listed in Fantastic Fiction. The Trance 2020 and The Apparition 2020 were listed; then disappeared from the list. Were the names changed?
