Sandra Brown was born Sandra Lynn Cox on March 12, 1948, in Waco, Texas, and grew up in Fort Worth. Her father was a journalist and her mother was a counsellor. She studied English at Texas Christian University, but she left in 1968 when she married Michael Brown, a former television news anchor and documentary producer. Later, she worked as a weather reporter for TV stations in Tyler and Dallas, but when she was fired from her television job in 1979, she decided to writing full time instead.

In 1981, she published her debut novel, Love’s Encore, using the pen name Rachel Ryan, which she created from the first names of her two children. This effectively started her writing career. In addition, she also used the pen names Laura Jordan and Erin St. Claire to write romances before publishing her novels under her own name. By the mid-1980s, Sandra Brown had moved from straight-up romance novels to the romantic suspense and thriller genre that she is currently best known for, and which she still continues writing today.

Sandra Brown has received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas Christian University and was president of Mystery Writers of America. She is a member of the Author’s Guild, International Association of Crime Writers, Mystery Writers of America, Novelists, Inc. and Literacy Partners, and she lives in Arlington, Texas, with her husband.

  1. Sandra Brown my absolute favorite book is Envy. I fell in love with the book. I have read it several times. Each time I get something new. A greater awareness to the characters. You are the best writer I know. Keep writing. God bless.

  2. Just finished a great book by Sandra Brown titled “Outfox”. It is so well done, that I could not put it down. She draws her characters so real that you think she personally knows them. I believed Drex all the way through the book. He was a lovable guy. The lady just couldn’t resist him . He was so charming. I hope Mrs. Brown comes out with a sequel to “Outfox”.

  3. I have read all her books and love each of them. Fabulous!

  4. Love reading her books as I have read every one written by this amazing woman and have passed these on to many of my friends Thank you Sandra for my hours of enjoyable reading

going to get Out of Nowhere very soon. Great writer

  6. All I know, is that when I get to read a Sandra Brown novel, I cannot put it down. Because of Sandra Brown, my house looks like a pig sty…nothing is completed like it should be. Sandra Brown, you’ve ruined my life, but in a good way. Keep those books coming, and I’ll hire a housekeeper.

  7. At the end of one of Sandra Brown’s audiobooks is a preview of “Shadows of Yesterday.” I’m hooked, but I can’t find it in Audible or Amazon, where I could purchase a paperback, but I prefer audio recordings. Where can I purchase and download “Shadows of Yesterday”?

  8. My daughter told me about Sandra’s books, and I made it my decision to look her up and start reading one of these good books, well … it seem as though my daughter was right, I knew from the start I loved the very first book. I am a 75 old female and I have started from the first book she wrote, Best Kept Secrets (1989). and I wanted to read these in order, but they have been taken off the list.. DARN!

  9. I have read a number of Sandra’s books and have enjoyed them but I have just read “OUTFOX” and this was one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read.I an a 75 year old male and have been a prolific reader my whole life.
Thank you and keep up the great writing.
