Tom Thorne Series (Books in Order)

The Tom Thorne series follows Detective Inspector Tom Thorne working at the London Metropolitan Police as he investigates serial killer and murder cases across the city. A stubborn, unconventional detective, he has a sharp eye for cases where things don’t add up. The books are police procedurals with heavy psychological tension due to Thorne’s personal emotional issues. Sleepyhead was adapted into a mini TV-series in 2010.

Cry Baby (Book 17) is a prequel set in 1996 before the events of Sleepyhead, and is best read after you know the character.

Detective Miller (Books in Order)

The DS Miller series follows Detective Sergeant Declan Miller, a seasoned but unconventional cop working in Blackpool who is also a passionate ballroom dancer. The series has a darker comic edge than the Tom Thorne books, and they start with Miller’s return from compassionate leave following his wife’s murder. Upon his return, he solves cases using very atypical methods, including talking things through with his “ghost” wife due to his grief over her death.
