The Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series follows police inspector Thomas Pitt and his socially well-connected wife Charlotte as they investigate murders in late Victorian London, in 1880s and 1890s society. Thomas handles the police side while Charlotte, being from the high society, has access to upper-class drawing rooms, which makes her an essential part of the investigation. The cases regularly involve questions of class, gender, and the gap between respectable appearances and what actually happens behind closed doors.

Anne Perry Biography

Anne Perry was the pen name of Juliet Marion Hulme, a British historical mystery author best known for the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt, William Monk, and Daniel Pitt series. She was an international bestseller whose books sold in the millions and helped define the modern historical mystery genre.
Official website: anneperry.us
Anne Perry was born on October 28, 1938, in London. Her father, Dr. Henry Hulme, was a physicist. She spent part of her childhood in England, South Africa, and New Zealand, where she was diagnosed with tuberculosis. In 1954, when she was 15, she and her friend Pauline Parker were convicted in New Zealand of murdering Pauline’s mother.
After her release, she returned to Britain, changed her name to Anne Perry, which she later used in her long writing career, and eventually joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1968 while living in the United States. She later settled in the Scottish village of Portmahomack.
Her first novel, The Cater Street Hangman, published in 1979, was the beginning of the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series, followed by the William Monk series in 1990. Over more than four decades, she wrote more than 100 books, including historical mysteries, Christmas novellas, World War I novels, and later series featuring Daniel Pitt and Elena Standish.
Her identity as Juliet Hulme became public knowledge in 1994 following the release of Peter Jackson’s film Heavenly Creatures, which was based on the 1954 case. Perry continued writing until her death. She died in Los Angeles on April 10, 2023, at age 84. She was named by The Times as one of the twentieth century’s 100 Masters of Crime, and in 2015 she received the Premio de Honor Aragón Negro.

I’ve been listening to, and thoroughly enjoying, the Monk Series on Audible, but have been frustrated that not all the books are recorded; the series is missing books 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 14 leaving frustrating gaps in the story line. Apparently there is still some effort to record these as book 14 (The Shifting Tide) is now scheduled to release in May, as is book 18 – even though 19-24 are already available on Audible.
I have only been able to find one other unabridged book and a 4 hour abridged version of a second book on audio from another publisher; do you have any insight as to where to obtain audio versions of the missing volumes? After decades of avid reading, audio books are truly now my only option. Thank you.
Please, please continue the Monk series!!!
Sadly that won’t happen anymore as Anne Perry passed away.
