This man is a genius at writing characters involved in both situational and personal development. The deeply human concerns of his characters are balanced by skills, often surprising, in analysis and violent action – and that’s something very rarely seen properly in today’s fiction thriller writing.
He establishes the most unlikely basis for a story – read “The Island – and creates a human cast able to engage your attention and suspended disbelief with mastery ease. Dammit, I wish I could write like that.
The June Whitefield novels carry you through to deep understanding for a culture at complete odds to contemporary America and provide an insight into a world lost forever to the shallow generations inhabiting the land today.
A national treasure by any standard, he should be in every bookstore and library in the English-speaking world.
I love “Metzger’s Dog,” too. And “Island” is genius.
Was The Boyfriend adapted to a Law and Order SVU episode? There was an episode also called The Boyfriend; it followed the story line of the book.
As far as I know, The Boyfriend in SVU is not related to Thomas Perry’s The Boyfriend.
I love Thomas Perry books. Just discovered him. Have read about seven so far and have enjoyed all. I’ve gotten my husband hooked too! Plan to read them all!!!
Would love another”Jane” book!
What about THE OLD MAN?
I do not see it listed and I liked the story! I do note someone else mentioned it above.
Just discovered Mr Perry’s books and I am so impressed with his talent.
I just finished The Old Man by Thomas Perry and I absolutely loved it. It is my first book by this author and it has inspired me to seek out his other writings.
The book “Death Benefits” has been one of my favorites, which as me hoping there will be sequels. The main character has the same first name as my son, and could have been modeled after him.
