Deborah Crombie

Deborah Crombie is an American author whose work include the long-running Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James mystery series.

Deborah Crombie was born in Dallas, Texas, and she grew up in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas. She studied biology at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and later attended the Rice University Publishing Program. Although American by birth, she developed a strong interest in Britain and lived in the United Kingdom for several years, an experience that influenced the settings of her novels.

Her debut novel, A Share in Death, published in 1993, introduced Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Sergeant Gemma James and became the first novel of the author’s main series.

Deborah Crombie lives in McKinney, Texas and often travels to Britain to research her books.
