In Death Hollow, book 3 in the Simon Peake thriller series by Rob Sinclair. Ex-Special Forces soldier Simon Peake was passing a gold-mining town when his truck broke down and he had to stop for a while. Initially, he wanted nothing more than to keep moving and stay away from trouble, but a local girl went missing and the town was more interested in keeping its secrets than finding out what happened to her, Peake decided otherwise.

He had seen corruption before, and he immediately realized that Red Hollow was as corrupt as ever. The more questions he asked, the more they led him to the mine tunnels that could mean either finding the girl or finding himself into too much trouble.

Simon Peake was only supposed to pass by Red Hollow — not through it. But when his truck breaks down on the outskirts of the old gold-mining town, he has no choice but to stay. Red Hollow is a place clinging to its heralded past, ruled by powerful men and quieter fear. When a local girl goes missing, the town closes ranks, and silence becomes a form of protection.

Peake knows the signs. Corruption hiding behind smiles. When Peake starts asking questions, the answers lead deep into the hollowed-out ridge above the town — into abandoned mine tunnels where the scars of violence still streak the rock, and ghosts are said to roam.
