Luke Conway is an off-duty cop driving alone through a Texas rainstorm when he hits something while on the road. He searches but can’t find a body. With no witnesses, while quite shaken from the ordeal, but unsure what he actually hit, he decides to keep quiet and not report it. He might as well investigate quietly on his own. But the timing couldn’t be worse, as Luke and his wife Carrie have just moved back to Clear River to help with her sick father, and this move was supposed to be a fresh start after a serious setback at his previous job.
Carrie is already dealing with her own baggage, as she is the sole survivor of an unsolved double murder that happened in Clear River years ago, when two teenage girls were killed and the killer was never caught. As Luke digs into what happened on that road, and as Carrie’s past begins to resurface, the two cases start pulling toward the same place. The truth, when it comes, is worse than either of them expected.
