An orphaned African chimpanzee moves in with a typical 1960s American family, in a story inspired by studies of actual primates raised by humans.

During a scientific expedition to Africa, Dr. Hugo Archibald, of the Museum of Natural History in Boston, discovers a monkey whose mother is dying. Moved, he decides to take her in and names her Jennie. Back in Boston, where his two children are waiting for him, he raises her like them. So much so that Jennie ends up behaving like a human being: she learns to ride a tricycle, fights with her “brother” and “sister”, and dresses herself…

Innocence and the way in which Jennie’s behavior melts everyone who crosses her path. Until attracting the attention of a primatologist, who wishes to continue the experiment of his adaptation by teaching him sign language. But the experiment finished, what remains of the monkey Jennie? Will she be able to find her place in the cruel world of men?
