Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters (Amelia Peabody #1)

Crocodile on the Sandbank is the first in the Amelia Peabody series by the famous (sadly now deceased) author Elizabeth Peters.  This first book was also the first one that exposed me to archaeological mysteries, a genre that I love until now.
