Book Tour And Review: Resolutions by Teri Riggs (Honor Guard Series #1)
Resolutions by Teri Riggs is a fun first novel in the Honor Guard series. A typical steamy romantic suspense, a genre that I love reading now and then, features the hot alpha male Mac (Dillon McKenna) and Eve Taylor, who get together again to save their country and each other as well.
Eve and Mac were once a hot couple, full of love, romance and passion, right until Eve got promoted to field agent, which didn’t set very well with Dillon, who wanted his woman at home safe from any bullets, knives and bad guys. Mac’s reasoning behind his overprotective attitude towards Eve comes from his mother having died as a nurse during the war. Mac doesn’t want Eve to have the same fate.
On the other hand this promotion means everything to Eve, who chooses her career over Mac’s demands.
Two years passed, during which time they stayed away from each other. Now Eve is a respected and well loved operative who is extremely good at what she does. However due to someone’s betrayal, she is now an unwilling prisoner of a famous and ruthless Colombian drug lord, Mendoza, who keeps her locked in his dungeon cell when he is not beating her up for the sensitive information that she stole from him. He wants to know just how much of his intel he stole and whether she already passed on the flash drive with the information to the US government. Of course, Even being the tough operative and patriot, she wouldn’t give up this information even under heavy abuse.
And this is where Mac enters the action. Despite their being apart for 2 years, he soon realizes that he literally can’t live without her. He has to save her from the drug lord monster, which he does, just moments before she is killed by one of the villain’s goons.
However the danger is not over. Someone close to either Eve or Mac is a spy for the drug lord, which gives the Colombian an edge putting him one step ahead all the time. And this makes it quite difficult for the couple to return to the compound to steal again the information that Even couldn’t pass on to the government before being captured.
Throughout the whole book the suspense doesn’t let down. It’s either Even or Mac, or both, in deep trouble. Running away, sneaking back, fighting, shooting and killing are very common in this book. The only times the tension lets down for a bit are during the hot and steamy moments between Eve and Mac – which bring to the table (or bed) a tension of their own.
The main characters have really come alive under the author’s pen. Their feelings for each other are real, their love for their country is real and their sense of duty, honor and revenge is just as human as it could be. Granted, Mac’s possessiveness over Eve is a bit over the top, but that is also very popular in the romantic suspense genre.
I also enjoyed reading about Mac’s friend, Cade. He has some funny lines that often left me chuckling. I am hoping that the next book in the Honor Guard series will be about him. He is really a character worth fleshing out some more.
As for the one who actually betrayed Eve and left her at the mercy of Mendoza, well I didn’t see that one coming.
The book has an explicit violence warning, however I really didn’t find more violence in in that in many other murder mysteries or crime thrillers that I’ve been reading so far, and it actually suits very well the military romantic suspense genre with its mix or steamy love and violent action. It’s definitely not a cozy novel, but it’s really not that extreme to put one off from reading it. And let’s face it, the hot steamy moments more than make up for it 🙂
Resolution is a fun first novel by Teri Riggs, one that I enjoyed reading and now I’m looking forward to the second in the Honor guard series.
About the author
Teri Riggs was destined to be a writer. As a small girl she didn’t read bedtime stories, she made up her own. Who needed Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs when there were so many great tales bouncing around in her head? When she grew up and became a mother to three little girls, she continued the tradition of making up bedtime stories. On the occasions she chose to tell conventional fairy tales, Teri usually gave them a bit of tweaking here and there or added a new ending. Her girls loved it.
After her daughters had the nerve to actually grow up and leave home, Teri discovered she had a passion for writing and jumped right in. It came as no surprise she chose to write mysteries and happily-ever-after’s since that’s the genres she loves to read.
Teri lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband, one of her daughters and two dogs that seem to think they rule the world. And some days Teri thinks maybe they do.
Teri still frequently tells herself stories as she falls asleep. The only difference now is she wakes up the next morning and turns her bedtime stories into books.

Marika, thanks for the great review. I’m glad you enjoyed Resolutions.
After watching Breaking Bad, I have found myself so obsessed with drug-crime thrillers. If you knew how “white bread” my life is, you would life at this statement! 😉 I love giving authors’ first novels a chance, so thanks for the information about Teri Riggs and her background. I would love to check this book out!
Casey,
I hope you get a chance to read Resolutions. It’s definitely not “white bread”. I actually found the research about drug trafficking shocking and interesting at the same time.
Thanks for stopping by!
