The Wind Dancer
The first book in the Wind Dancer series (1991)
The first book in the Wind Dancer series by Iris Johansen takes place in Renaissance Italy.
It is the year 1503. Lionello Andreas is the guardian of the Wind Dancer, a beautiful golden statue that was stolen. And once lost, he now desperately needs to recover it. In order to do that, he enlists the help of a slave in Florence, Sanchia, barely 16-years old. She is a thief who promised to get Lionello the Wind Dancer back.
Being a slave, she is not free, so Lion buys her from her owner. Sanchia has no say in the matter, so she does the stealing part. Except, things don’t go as planned, so Sanchia gets captured and tortured.
And now, Lionello must get back Sanchia’s trust if he wants to win her heart and soul and get the statue as well.
