Murder in Mistake is book 23 in Anne Cleeland’s Doyle and Acton mystery series. Doyle is pregnant again and on light duty when she speaks at a school Career Day. One little boy keeps asking every speaker the same unsettling question: have they ever killed someone? Doyle cannot put him out of her mind, especially after she learns that his father has disappeared, so she visits the family to find out what is going. This is when she discovers that the missing man has a connection to her and Acton’s own family.
What initially started as concern for a child now points straight to corruption and a cover-up. Doyle now has to figure what went wrong and who is trying to keep it hidden. The case can be followed on its own, but this far into the series, new readers should start with Murder in Thrall.

Doyle couldn’t stop thinking about that one little boy who’d been in the audience during the school’s Career Day event—the one who kept asking the troubling question.
